Southern Word is a local non-profit that focuses on youth spoken word programming, also known as performance poetry, which has proven effective as a youth development and literacy tool across the country. We seek to develop powerful communicators, providing the tools necessary to increase the ability of students to write, listen, and speak.
On April 4, the historic Franklin Theatre on April 4 at 4:30pm will host this year’s Williamson County Spoken Word Poetry Finals. Williamson County’s top youth poets and spoken word artists will compete for lyrical honors, a chance to appear at the statewide finals, and a shot to travel to the national teen poetry competition in San Francisco. A surprise guest will perform immediately following the slam. Students interested in performing should register at www.southernword.org/registration.
Tickets are free but registration is required at www.franklintheatre.com.
