2011 Franklin’s Battle of the BBQ

 

LILLIE’S Q NAMED GRAND CHAMPION OF FRANKLIN’S BATTLE OF THE BBQ

Thirty Teams Competed in Memphis Barbecue Network-Sanctioned Event

When the smoke cleared, Lillie’s Q of Destin, Fla. was named the Grand Champion of the Second Annual Franklin’s Battle of the BBQ.

The team also won first place in the pork shoulder, first place in ribs and second place in whole hog categories as professional competitors in the Memphis Barbecue Network-sanctioned event. Wild Boar Smokers won the title of Middle Tennessee Champion, along with first place in whole hog.

Fifteen professional teams and 15 backyard grill masters set up on Friday to compete in a host of categories, including the People’s Choice awards. On Saturday, several hundred attendees sampled the teams’ pulled pork and voted for their favorites. When the votes were tallied, Team Manwagon of Nashville stood victorious.

In the Backyard division, Three Hog Night took home first-place honors in the rib category, with Big B’s BBQ winning poultry and Best Barbecue in the Cul-de-Sac capturing the prize in beef.

More than $10,000 in prizes and awards were presented to the winners across all categories and divisions, with the Grand Champion winning $2,000 and the Middle Tennessee Champion winning $1,000.

Franklin’s Battle of the BBQ is produced by the Downtown Franklin Association, a nationally certified Main Street Program of the National Trust and a division of the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County. Proceeds from the BBQ competition go to the continued revitalization and promotion of Historic Downtown Franklin.
