This Friday, Jack Yacoubian Jewelers will host internationally exhibited artist Paul Harmon during May’s Franklin Art Scene. A recent member of the first-Friday event, the downtown Franklin shop on Third Avenue South will hold an extensive exhibition of the artist’s work and said that the Brentwood resident will be on hand to sign copies of his latest work,  “Paul Harmon: Crossing Borders.”

Harmon is represented in private galleries and museums throughout Europe, Asia and the United States, and has been the recipient of many major painting awards, including the Prix de la Ville de Monaco and the Prix de la Société E.J.A. at the XXIV Prix International D’Art Contemporain de Monte-Carlo.

In conjunction with the Art Scene, O’More College of Design will kick off its 2013 Design Week this Friday evening through the annual Fine Art and Faculty Show. Work created by select faculty, staff and students will be on display in the fine arts gallery on campus, and special presentation pieces will include drawings, paintings, furniture design, sculpture and more. O’More Design Week is the premier event held each May by the College, and programming includes departmental student shows, May 3-10.

In addition, the College will hold a ribbon cutting and grand opening for the “Robert N. Moore Jr. Fine Arts Gallery” at 7 p.m.

Additional highlights include:

At Frothy Monkey, Nashville-based artist Jennifer Ives will be displayed her “Fire by Jennifer Ives” mixed-media pieces, which incorporate jewelry, mirrors, clothing and print items to create unusual and memorable three-dimensional works. The new coffeehouse on Fifth Avenue South will also exhibit pieces by Warren May, a Nashville native who displays a keen eye for subject, color, composition, and technique throughout his varied photographic portfolio.

At ReDo on the Public Square, the home and design store is holding an “upscale book signing” of Coming Home: The Southern Vernacular House by James Lowell Strickland, by Kevin Clark and the Partners of Historic Concepts. Clark will be on site to sign copies of the publication.

Riverside Antiques will display works by Sherri Parrish, a Nashville native who has been part of the local art community for more than 18 years. Join the furniture and home store on Bridge Street to view Parrish’s keen talents for placing color and impressionistic likeness of objects and people that are “free flowing and joyful.”

At Stites & Harbison, Coach Jimmy Gentry is Stites & Harbison’s featured artist this Friday night! Go and get a taste of his cheese box paintings of more than 25 different scenes. Plus, MoeBetter BBQ and Fish will be in front of the law firm on W. Main Street to provide food (weather permitting).

Town’s End General Store on W. Main Street is hosting Pamela Harpour during Friday’s big event! Pamela gains much of her inspiration from local gardens and feminine beauty. She often uses mixed media of oil and acrylics, but also likes to incorporate physical elements in her organic art series.

The Franklin Art Scene is a monthly event coordinated by the Downtown Franklin Association (DFA), and includes more than 30 locations.

The art crawl is free, but a $5 wristband includes unlimited stops on the trolleys that circulate throughout the circuit.
