Glow Medspa co-founders Gail Hayes and Tonia Gibson were friends before they were business partners. But that changed when Gibson, a nurse and licensed injector, approached Hayes about a new venture that included setting up shop in downtown Franklin.
The business on Second Avenue North – a space that also still operates as an office for Hayes’ own clinical psychology practice – opened last month, offering skincare services that range from Botox and chemical peels to facials and waxing.
“There’s no one else doing what we’re doing in downtown Franklin,” Hayes said. “We pride ourselves on providing an experience that embodies science, beauty and comfort.
“She (Tonia) knows the medical grade side, and I have the Franklin business connections to make it work. We knew this would be a fun adventure for us.”
Gibson, an emergency nurse in the area, is the primary injector and the brainchild behind the conception. She had her idea, and approached Hayes after becoming a licensed injector and meeting Dr. Jeffrey Marvel, a respected local plastic surgeon.
Marvel now acts as the medical director of Glow and a partner in the business. All products and procedures have been selected and honed under his guidance, with the help of licensed nurses and Glow-employed estheticians.
Together the trio behind Glow offers decades of both medical and business experience.
“Dr. Marvel has the experience, and the knowledge of all products and equipment,” Gibson said. “I am the nurse who is hands-on in the daily practice and with our clients. And Gail the consultant, who’s helping the business grow, step by step. Together, we form a pretty amazing team.”
In addition to the facials, microdermabrasion, waxing and tinting services, Glow concentrates on injectables such as Botox, Juvederm and Restylane, among others.
One of the most notable Glow treatments offered by the spa is the HydraFacial MD, which is unique to the immediate area and has received “glowing” reviews from celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Brittany Snow, Marie Osmond and others. Another is CoolSculpting, a procedure that offers a wide range of benefits to patients who are looking to reduce or eliminate stubborn body fat.
Both Gibson and Hayes have daughters of their own and say it is never too early, or too late, to take care of your skin. They hope the spa’s central downtown Franklin location will make it convenient for men and women who see skincare as a worthwhile investment, too.
“We wanted to be in downtown Franklin for the vibe and just the overall experience,” Hayes said. “The community plays into our luxurious ambiance. People love the feel of downtown Franklin, and we hope to become part of that.”
Glow is open Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
