Handy Hardware, Williamson County’s oldest continuously operating hardware store, will host a MoonPie® open house, Friday, Sept. 16,4-6 p.m. and 45-year anniversary celebration at their 731 Columbia Avenue location.
The store is home to the first MoonPie store-within-a-store in anticipation of Chattanooga Bakery Company’s 100th anniversary of making MoonPies next year. Handy Hardware is test marketing the concept for MoonPie Direct – the sales arm of the bakery.
On September 16 guests will be treated to a multitude of flavors of the tasty treats, including the stand-by chocolate, vanilla, banana, strawberry and the newest flavor salted caramel. Check out the vintage style candy and toy merchandise and browse the MoonPie wares that include logo T-shirts, mugs, travel cups, lapel pins and bottle openers to name a few.
Handy Hardware will also have a cold RC Cola, Sun Drop or Coca-Cola if you prefer to accompany your MoonPie.
The old-time hardware store also boasts and general store feel with a comprehensive selection of Lodge cast iron cookware and Claey’s candy, including Horehound, Lemon Drop, Sassafras and other flavors. And there’s a selection of hardware too!
Established in 1971 by local businessmen including Dr. Joseph Willoughby, Calvin LeHew, Ronald Ligon and others, the store remains under management by Andy and Donna Willoughby.
