On Friday, Oct. 3, Franklin Art Scene is celebrating another month of local artistic genius at 20 participating locations, 6-9 p.m.
Every first Friday, participants enjoy fresh art at locations dispersed in and around Historic Downtown Franklin—including the Second South District and Bridge Street, as well as Columbia Avenue. Many of the galleries and working studios will serve complimentary food and refreshments, and some will offer live music.
The Oct. 3 locations are slated to offer a sweeping variety of magnificent work. Below are some highlights:
- Stites & Harbison on West Main Street is hosting Tracy H. Sugg, a fine arts sculptor who will be displaying oil paintings. Sugg will be joining Joseph Bibb and Essence DeVonne, the Stites & Harbison artists in residence. Kent and Bennet Burnside will perform on the law firm’s porch, from 6-9 p.m.
- Head to Shuff’s Music this Friday to see an exhibition by Shannon Haas, complimented by live music, wine, food and fresh coffee! Shannon—who is inspired to paint nature, anything from flowers to landscapes—owns a working art studio, The Art Attic, which is above The Shop Around the Corner in downtown Franklin.
- Gallery 202 will feature magnificent works by local artist Susan Blair Truex this Friday evening. The privately owned gallery is also an art crawl hotspot!
- During the October event T. Nesbitt & Co. on the corner of Second Avenue and Bridge Street will host Tucky Myhre, an artist with a desire to inspire. Tucky co-founded “Ignite Life 1010″ ministries and has a passion to inspire people through the arts. Plus, Tucky’s co-founder in Ignite Life 1010, Cameron Gilliam, will provide acoustic music during the evening.
- WCCVB Visitor’s Center at 400 W. Main Street is exhibiting Darrell Marshall of “Guit-Art,” who handcrafts metal guitars! These incredible pieces of art are made from different kinds of heavy-duty metal, some with signatures of musical artists.
- O’More College of Design on S. Margin Street is presenting a solo exhibition by Nashville-based artist Wayne Brezinka during Friday’s event. “Paper Cuts: Discarded Illusions and Found Realities” will premiere Brezinka’s most recent body of work: a cohesive group of cut paper, collage, mixed media and installation works created over the last year and a half. Live music provided by recording artists Merging Blue and Arthur Alligood offer entertainment throughout the night. As a special segment of the evening, Laura Sobiech will share the story of her son Zach Sobiech’s battle with cancer beginning at 7 p.m. A portrait of Zach, commissioned by the Sobiech family, will be on display. Brezinka used Zach’s clothing, fan letters and personal items to create the piece. Plus, the YouTube video “My Last Days: Meet Zach Sobiech”–which has over 12 million views–will be shown.
- The work at Bob Parks Realty on Main Street will be especially heartwarming on Friday: the business is displaying children’s artwork from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
